bodytalk produziert konsequent regionales Tanz-Theater mit politischem Inhalt, zumeist mit Live-Musik. Yoshiko Waki und Rolf Baumgart haben bodytalk 2008 gegründet. Ihre Arbeiten werden von der Presse als „radikal lokal“ und als „Labor der Darstellenden Künste“ bezeichnet. Die Produktionen entstehen häufig unter Einbeziehung des öffentlichen Raums sowie lokaler, gewachsener, auch abseitiger Kulturaktivitäten wie Lohn-Wäscherinnen jenseits des Rentenalters, Karnevalstanzgruppen oder Schlangen-Philosophen.

bodytalk wurde mit dem Leipziger Bewegungskunst-Preis für die beste freie Produktion der Spielzeit, dem Bremer Autoren- und Produzentenpreis, dem Kölner Tanztheaterpreis und dem renommierten Hauptpreis Golden Yorick des 26. Shakespeare Festival in Danzig ausgezeichnet.

Nach ihrer ersten Zusammenarbeit mit dem Polnischen Tanztheater PTT in Posen im Jahr 2014 (JEWROPE) konnte bodytalk zahlreiche internationale Koproduktionen verwirklichen, darunter America's Next President (2016) mit Camposition/USA und AtomHeartMother (2016) mit Futome Performance aus Japan. Dies wurde durch Koproduktionen mit AURA (Litauen), GOTRA/Joost Vrouenarts (Niederlande) und PTT in den Jahren 2017 und 2018 fortgesetzt. Im Jahr 2021 koproduzierte bodytalk erneut mit PTT Romeos & Julias umplagued und zuletzt KOREALITY - (K)eine Geisterbeschwörung (2023) mit SIDance.

bodytalk ist regelmäßig sowohl auf nationalen Festivals zu sehen, – wie dem asphalt Festival, FAVORITEN Festival, Move! Krefeld, Festival tanz nrw, Highlights des Internationalen Tanzes im Theater Bonn, Flurstücke Festival in Münster, TanzArt ostwest –, als auch auf internationalen, u.a. SIDance, Malta Festival Poznan, Jerusalem Dance Week, International Dance Festival AURA in Kaunas, Litauen, Shakespeare Festival Danzig, Oradea International Theater Festival. Seit 2021 veranstaltet bodytalk auch eigene Festivals (Israel is real und umPolen) in Kooperation mit dem Theater im Pumpenhaus und arbeitet eng zusammen mit der Stadt Münster, zuletzt im Rahmen der Feierlichkeiten zum 375-jährigen Jubiläum des Westfälischen Friedens.

bodytalk hat seit 2012 die Spitzenförderung Tanz in NRW und wurde von der Kulturstiftung des Bundes in das Doppelpass- und das Tanzfonds Erbe-Programm aufgenommen. Seit Herbst 2016 ist bodytalk „Artist in Residence“ im Theater im Pumpenhaus in Münster und erhält seit 2021 die Exzellenzförderung Tanz in NRW. Ausgangspunkt jeder Produktion ist jeweils die Frage: Was passiert, wenn Tanz und Realität zusammenstoßen?

bodytalk creates political dance-theater that is deeply rooted in the community in which it is produced – mostly accompanied by live music. Yoshiko Waki and Rolf Baumgart founded bodytalk in 2008. Their work is described by the press as "radically local" and as a "laboratory of performing arts." The productions often incorporate public spaces as well as locally evolved structures and unconventional cultural practices such as elderly laundry workers, carnival dance groups, or snake philosophers.

bodytalk has been awarded the Leipzig Movement Art Prize for the best independent production of the season, the Bremen Authors and Producers Prize, the Cologne Dance Theater Prize, and the prestigious Golden Yorick main prize at the 26th Shakespeare Festival in Gdansk.

After their initial collaboration with the Polish Dance Theater PTT in Poznan in 2014 (JEWROPE), bodytalk has been able to realize numerous international co-productions, including America's Next President (2016) with Camposition/USA and AtomHeartMother (2016) with Futome Performance from Japan. Since 2012, bodytalk has received funding for dance in North Rhine-Westphalia and has been included in the Doppelpass and Tanzfonds Erbe programs by the Federal Cultural Foundation. Since autumn 2016, bodytalk has been an artist in residence at the Theater im Pumpenhaus in Münster, and since 2021, it has been receiving excellence funding for dance in North Rhine-Westphalia. The starting point for each production is always the question: What happens when dance and reality collide?
